Buying a new washer and dryer means getting rid of the old ones and making way for the delivery of the new appliances. Fortunately, many companies now arrange to dispose of the old appliances when they deliver your new washer and dryer. You will still need to prepare for the delivery, though, to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible. The following tips can help.
Tip #1: Double check inside
The last thing you want is to lose your favorite pair of jeans because they were still sitting inside the washer. Before pickup, make sure the washer is completely drained and check inside both the washer and the dryer for any remaining clothing.
Tip #2: Clear out the room
Take a few minutes to tidy before the delivery. Remove anything that you store on top of the washer and dryer, such as detergent bottles. Move hampers of dirty and clean clothing to another room. If possible, make sure there is nothing in the utility room except for the appliances. This way the delivery personnel have plenty of room to work and you don't have to worry about accidental damage to your items.
Tip #3: Prep for moving
Go ahead and disconnect the water hoses from the washer and the vent from the dryer. If you plan to use the same vent, clean out any lint that has built up inside. You should also wipe down the exterior of the units so dust isn't tracked through your home. If you have room, move out the old appliances and sweep beneath them so you don't have to when the crew moves them out. You should also measure to make sure the appliances will fit through all doorways, and remove any doors necessary to widen the path when necessary.
Tip #4: Verify the delivery window
You must be home during the delivery or you will need to schedule a new delivery date, which may mean an extra charge. If you can't be home for some reason, there are services you can hire that will provide a professional "waiter" to allow the delivery personnel into your home. You can also provide them with additional instructions, such as sweeping once the old appliances are moved and before the new ones are moved inside. They will also inspect the appliances for damages and make sure the delivery personnel hook things up as specified by their contract before they leave.
These simple tips can help your delivery go much more smoothly.
